What Are Your Goals And Dreams

Remember when you were little and you felt like you were invincible? Remember when you believed you could be anything or do anything? Remember those dreams you had as a kid? Dreams of becoming a pilot or a famous artist. Dreams of traveling the world or raising a huge family. What happened? Why do we give up on those dreams? Dreams, hopes, and wishes for our future are essential to our happiness. They came from you, deep inside, without any outside influence. I’m talking about those dreams like becoming your own boss, writing a book, working for NASA, being a dance choreographer, or traveling.

The people in your life are a huge reason you stop dreaming. There are adults that may have told you your dreams weren’t possible. You might’ve had friends laugh at your dreams and tell you they are stupid. Maybe there was a teacher that told you, you didn’t have any talents. People older than you tend to guide you in the direction they feel is best for you, even though it might not be what you want. We let the thoughts and beliefs of others affect our thoughts and beliefs which directly affect how we act and think. This is where our dreams start to get stored away in the deepest part of our minds and sometimes completely forgotten.

Here are a few big issues that pull us away from those childhood dreams.

FEAR. This is the biggest one. We are scared that we may fail. That we will try and then give up. That we will discover it is not possible. And we fear that people will judge us if we give up or fail. Fear many times stops us from even trying to work towards a dream in the first place. Fear many times is what keeps us stuck.

DISCIPLINE. People just donโ€™t have discipline to keep themselves working towards a dream anymore. Itโ€™s really unfortunate. If itโ€™s too hard people just give up. If itโ€™s taking too long, people just throw in the towel. Putting constant effort into a dream just doesnโ€™t exist anymore.

PATIENCE. Almost no one has any patience in todayโ€™s day and age either anymore. Everything is immediate. You buy something and you want it now. You need to talk to someone and you want their response now. You hope for something newer or bigger or better, and you want it now. You want to listen to a certain song, you put it on now. You want to watch a specific show, you get it on now. There is no such thing as waiting and working hard for amazing things to happen.

NEGATIVITY. Many donโ€™t have confidence in themselves. They live in this negative mindset that life is too hard. Working is too hard. They will never be good enough. Or they donโ€™t deserve it. Not only are we telling ourselves this, but unfortunately there are many negative people out there telling our โ€˜dreamersโ€™ that what they want isnโ€™t possible to begin with, so why work towards that crazy dream anyways.

I’m telling you today to take some time to dig deep in the back of your brain and revisit those childhood dreams. Wipe away the cobwebs and take a look. Well? How does it feel? Do you feel sad that you gave it up? Or excited to actually start working towards it?

If you don’t have any dreams, that is your first mistake. STOP right now and force yourself to dream a bit. Don’t think about your skills, your money, your time. Think about what makes you feel good, what makes you smile, what gets you excited. Write down all of those things that come to mind. No judgment here. Itโ€™s healthy to dream. Itโ€™s healthy to think big. Itโ€™s healthy to want to work towards something!
